There are a lot of courses available in the theory of music, and on first glimpse it would seem that both THEORY BY POST and THEORY BY EMAIL are just another two to add to the list.
But the main difference can be described in two words: PERSONAL TUTORING.
Having taught theory of music for many years our tutors have realised that for many students the simple act of buying an 'off-the-shelf' course is not going to be sufficient (good as many of them are). Depending on one's past 'history' and general experience in the field of music, it is quite common for students to get the 'wrong end of the stick' when it comes to understanding theory topics, and this can act as a sort of 'block' on making further progress. Some theory concepts can be quite hard to grasp, and for this reason many students will need more than just a set of instructions and exercises in order for them to achieve their targets.
This is where our courses are different! At DP Music Services we don't only teach the various theory of music topics, but we also make sure that each student has grasped the work they have done through a process of careful monitoring of each student's progress. After marking a set of exercises for a student, the tutor will prepare a report of the work marked, containing tips for improvement in the future. If the tutor discovers an area of particular weakness he or she will prepare an even fuller document showing in more detail the steps that should be taken by the student in order to help them overcome their weakness. Sometimes a tutor will contact the student several times, emphasising certain points in the work, spending as much time as is necessary for the student to fully understand the topic so that they can continue to make progress. It is this that makes the courses truly interactive. Just as everyone is different, so each student is treated as different; the 'route' to fully grasping the work in hand will vary from student to student, and at DP Music Services all students are taught individually. Indeed each student is special! The results speak for themselves -- to date no student has ever failed a theory exam, and most have passed with a Distinction (90% or more). We intend to maintain these high standards, so students can be confident that we will do our absolute best to ensure that each student achieves their best.
Another advantage of our courses is that as each student is taught on an individual basis, it is often possible for a student to work through course modules at a faster rate than would be possible if the student attended regular lessons in his or her geographic locality. If a student has a mind to work, and the necessary time available, DP Music Services will 'speed through' one module after another in order to get the student through the course as quickly as possible. This isn't the main reason for the course being available, but it can have advantages if a student is 'in a hurry' to pass Grade 5, for example. If you are in this situation it would be a good idea to first contact DP Music Services and explain your circumstances.
