| This interactive correspondence course in the theory of music was set up originally as a postal correspondence course and is designed especially for students who take instrumental or vocal lessons. THEORY BY EMAIL is the online version of the same distance-learning course, and it is now available to all English-speaking students throughout the world. Understanding of the theoretical side of music is extremely important as a complement to practical tuition, but it is also possible to study music theory as a separate subject. | ![]() |

THEORY BY EMAIL compares favourably with other similar courses on the theory of music; it commences right at the beginning and progresses through a series of modules up to Intermediate level (the actual classification is Grade 5 in the United Kingdom, but may well equate to other levels elsewhere). The course is based on the syllabuses of two major UK examination boards, but both boards have extensive operations in many countries of the world, so this means that students are able to enter for exams in their locality once they are ready. |
| Yet another possible advantage of THEORY BY EMAIL over the more traditional methods of studying is that students are completely free to work at their own speed as they proceed through the course, which means that if students have the availability of time it is quite possible to make the necessary progress in considerably less time than it normally takes by attending weekly lessons with a local teacher. | ![]() |
THEORY BY EMAIL has not been running as long as THEORY BY POST, so comments by students are not yet available, but students on the postal course have been very complimentary indeed, as the following shows:
